Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Givenchy Vulture Dress
Continuing our journey through the Savage Beauty exhibition the MET created of Alexander McQueen‘s work, we approach possibly the most macabre and the most revered. From the “Eclect Dissect” Givenchy Haute Couture collection is this simply extraordinary piece, a work which draws from a terribly malevolent ideal, producing a result of such incredible beauty.
Alexander McQueen stated: “My idea was this mad scientist who cut all these women up and mixed them all back together.”
Could this be the Edward Scissorhands of dresses? The idea of a mad scientist building new creatures suggests so, although this piece is much less charming and magical, more imposing, decadent, the beauty created through the iniquitous nature of the idea.
Daphne Guinness suggested there could only be one fashion designer who was creating art. This dress, with such structure & attention to detail, reinforces her claims. McQueen‘s ideals, his personal feelings and emotions create a spellbinding conclusion.
