Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2013

While the Alexander McQueen label was decimated by the loss of Lee McQueen, there is no doubt in anyones mind that it was sincerely blessed by having Sarah Burton enter the frame.
Sarah Burton is taking the McQueen label on a completely new and beautiful journey, however there is still a nod back to Lee McQueen’s love of gothic and macabre, a homage to his darkened past.
The Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2013 show echoed this most in three of the final statement dresses of the collection. Whilst the concept and ideal were as far removed from McQueen’s malevolent past, it was fantastic to see this aesthetic still included within this new journey.
As a few collections have been this season, the concept was orchestrated around the honeycomb environments of the Bee. The headwear a modernistic almost futurist architecture of the lowly bee keeper.
However the iniquitous power of McQueen still remained, especially in these three numbers. The lace, chiffon and textures oozed black, showing the McQueen label can still be in charge of gothic if it wants to be.
