The ambiguous beauty of Andrej Pejic
A genderless, ambiguous figure who sits, without doubt, as the sovereign of androgyny. Defining and breaking boundaries simultaneously. Whilst we would prefer to refrain from mentioning gender and just look at Andrej as a divine individual, there is no doubt he is making the fashion world stand up and take notice.
With Croatian and Serbian genes, it’s obvious where those heavenly looks come from, but his look is far more than that. It’s about personality, being true to yourself and experimentation. With Pejic stating “It’s how I feel and it feels good”.
His recent success can be accounted to the aforementioned values. However it’s interesting to think how a figure such as Andrej can be more suited to womenswear than many of the female public. With Hilary Alexander, fashion director for the Daily Telegraph stating:
“Andrej is obviously beautiful and he has the most amazing figure. When you consider that a lot of designers are designing for this impossible ideal for someone who is 5ft 11in, no hips and no chest”.
Perhaps that is what makes Andrej so inhumanly beautiful, the realisation of the “impossible ideal”. His features and figure the absolute height of both sexes.
Without doubt Andrej Pejic is fast becoming a beacon for individuality. An inspiration to be who you want to be and for society not to pressure one to change who they are through either fear or force.
So to end, we leave you in the words of Andrej himself. Because when it comes to fashion “It’s a very liberal industry. You can be yourself. Just not overweight.”
