candis cayne t We continue on our journey to discover gender role models in mainstream media. Attempting to create a spotlight on those who have helped transgender within society.

Candis Cayne was born in 1971 in Hawaii, growing up to study as a dancer. After making her name as a choreographer Candis Cayne continued her career as an actress, most notably in Dirty Sexy Money.

Candis Cayne, like Mimi Marks has won the Miss Continental pageant and has pioneered transgender by being the first transgender actress to play a transgender character over a period of series in prime-time television. stating on Hollywood411

“The weight of it hits you, you’re moving society forward”

going on to say:

“I’m not trying to be a spokeswoman for the transgender community; I just want to be looked at as a living, breathing, happy human being.”

As Candis Cayne says herself, seeing someone who is transgendered go in front of the word and happy with who they are, is a really powerful statement.
