Fetish is taking over high end fashion, that is a fact. It has been flirting around the sidelines, corrupting who-ever it can for sometime now, but 2010 is the year it finally manages to grab hold and deliver. We couldn't be more excited either, gone are the days when we had to search out and promote those who really are doing fetish proud, but now they get to take the spotlight for the intense and amazing designs they produce. Case in point, Christina Aguilera is following suit of her peers like Rihanna & Lady Gaga and going for the fetish laden latex look for her new videos and tours. Choosing incredible outfits, from the likes of Torture Garden and Atsudo Kudo. This trend has taken its time however. Viktoria Modesta, the musician and model wore the exact Torture Garden outfit that Aguilera is now championing well over two years ago now. It helps that her partner is the founder of TG, David Wood. But it just shows that it has taken a long time to get into to the mainstream culture. It continues on the catwalk as well, with Dsquared producing a fetish inspired collection including vibrant red latex stockings, latex high waisted knickers and leather pencil skirts to name just a few. This accompanies the Dominic Jones jewellery collection, who decided to take a leap to this trend, hiring the gorgeous Alice Dellal and pushing the edgy, yet sophisticated styling. Dellal posed in Dominic Jones signature leather gloves with gold nail tips, along with latex underwear and, well, not much else. But even though the big fashion houses have started to embrace this trend with open arms, nothing can compare to the true beautiful couture latex design that designers like Atsuko Kudo, HMS latex and Torture Garden have been building for over two decades. The amount of creativity, patience and imagination that is needed is simply staggering. Blurring the lines between art and fashion is something couture should always encompass and these three do just that. It might be a long way off to envisage latex and fetish fashions becoming completely accepted in popular culture, however it seems the world may be about to give them the credit they deserve. . .
