Founded in 1905, Gola has a special place in British sporting history, becoming the number one British sportswear brand for two decades, at one of the most exciting times in British history, the 1960s.

This year, to further celebrate its own British heritage, Gola has created a truly brilliant programme for students across Britain, taking the Gola Student Project: Gola Classics to the next level. The brand has trawled universities across the United Kingdom to search out the most exciting and talented students to become ambassadors for Gola. From music, to fashion art and design 30 students have been chosen.

Our first favourite from the Gola ambassadors has to be the brilliant sculpture David Sinott. Sinott creates beautiful and quirky 3D sculptures from whatever he can find, often producing animal sculpture, as if producing ... Read More »

Very rarely we come across a project which is exciting, creative and truly inspirational. This month Smirnoff launched Smirnoff Mindtunes and the result is all three, in spades.

For Mindtunes, the brand teamed up infamous British producer DJ Fresh with a leading brainwave expert, PhD. Julien Castet to help enable three physically disabled music fans produce and make a leading music track using nothing but their minds.

Using the latest in brainwave technology the three music fans Andy, Mark and Jo were able to unleash their creativity to produce ‘Mindtunes‘ with Castet and DJ Fresh’s direction.

“The power of the brain and this brainwave technology is amazing – to think that Mindtunes was created solely by a group of physically disabled music fans using only their minds. Without doubt one of the best live acts around at the moment, easily hand in hand with the “You get out, what you put in” saying.

If Nash isn’t stage diving or singing from within the crowd, she’ll probably be telling you some wacky, yet adorably hilarious story from her childhood. Without doubt her stage presence is just remarkable.

Her Girl Talk American tour has just concluded, which saw Kate Nash performing at Echoplex, The Observatory, Pandora and Sonos, Troubadour and even visiting the legendary Schecter Guitars. We managed to get our hands on some great photos from the tour by Alice Baxley, which echo our claims.

For Morbid melodies part 1, we look at a select few choices of music editor Greg Allan’s album reviews in the print version of Stylenoir Magazine

Ask The Dust (2012)
Lorn
Ask The Dust is the third album from misanthropic hip-hop artist Lorn. Unearthly ambient melodies accompanied by brooding vocals and driving beats reveal the the loneliness of urban living that’s hidden underneath a slick glossy veneer. Weigh me Down captures the struggle against the suppressive forces of a remorseless modern society while Everything is Violence is the sound of a decaying corpse hidden in the underpass. There is no glamour here no bling, no fast cars, no scantily clad girls, only a grit and grime covered mirror.

The aesthetic, the sensual concept and of course the cinematography that all goes along side this. When photographers look to film noir for inspiration in fashion editorial we get excited, and this time is no different in this absolutely fantastic editorial for Numero Magazine.

The photoshoot sees model Catherine McNeil who recently took on a film noir concept for Donna Karen AW13 and photographer Wing Shya collaborate to create one beautifully dark and sensual aesthetic.

The styling is exquisite from no less than Numero fashion editor Irina Marie, with the fashion accenting this smouldering editorial. Hair is by Seb Bascle and Makeup by Alice Ghendrih.

After months of hard work, countless hours of preparation and editing, on Thursday the 15th of May, we launched our debut print issue with a sensational party in central London.

It really is a big moment for us, and perhaps the greatest moment of Stylenoir’s four year journey so far. Launching into print just 4 days after our fourth anniversary was certainly special, and without doubt something to be proud of.

The response has been overwhelming, within this first week of the launch we’re already in four countries with stockists as far as Japan, it’s hard for us to keep up with orders and the colossal outturn for our launch event on the 15th of May was really ... Read More »

Without doubt Emika’s journey is a fascinating one, born in the UK and of Czech heritage the musician works as a sound designer in Berlin. Whilst in Berlin Emika discovered the Berghain nightclub, stating “It is intense, dark, boundry-less and safe. Berghain is whatever you want it to be.” This led to her first prominent step into producing and writing, providing the club with a sample library which eventually became the club’s label.

There is no doubt that Emika has a beautiful haunting tone to her music with Mixmag quoting Emika as the “Digital Ice Queen”, and the Guardian calling her sound “Creepy and brimming with bass”.

Tokyo based digital painter Ryohei Hase creates sublimely savage and surreal scenes that sit somewhere in between the realms of dreams and nightmares. A chaotic tangle of human bodies with wild-eyed wolfs and rabbits for heads, ripping each other apart, clawing and biting at their kin in a frenzied orgy of violence. The pastel tones, soft lighting and wispy strokes cut through the darkness adding a dreamy contrast though, giving the grotesque scenes an odd beauty, like a dark, harrowing fairy-tale.

The battle between humans and nature to co-exist is a running theme throughout his works, and when combined with his perfect blend of realism and a more illustrative style, gives a distinctly Japanese feel.

The level of detail in each piece is bordering on obsessive, every hair, whisker and splatter of saliva is executed with such precision that you can almost ... Read More »

Well now Camper are back, with a brand new and refreshing concept. A new collection of messenger bags, totes and accessories entitled ‘Mori’.

The Mori concept comes from the word’s translation in Japanese, meaning forest. The name is just the beginning as the concept not only takes on the texture of the aforementioned forest, but the bags themselves are made from a new process which allows the raw material to be nothing other than paper.

Designer Dai Fujiwara found a new way of creating a composite material from paper and polyester, with paper making up over 60% of the final material. He wanted to create something tactile, to connect our desire of touch with this collection, and therefore used this specially knitted texture to create the vision.

Whilst we are thrilled that Strangers will be DJ’ing at our print magazine party tonight, there is much more exciting news to bring you. Nothing less than the world premiere of their B-Side track ‘Never Enough’ from the single ‘Something New’, exclusively launched on Stylenoir.

We’re honoured and thrilled to be able to bring this brilliant piece of dark electronica to you first.

With Musicweek, Artrocker and Mixmag already having showered them in praise, it is no surprise that Strangers are starting to stir some serious attention. Their timbre has this beautiful sultry tone which is simultaneously both hypnotically haunting and romantic. The kind of sound which seems to have combined influences of NiN and Human League, bringing it into the modern world.
