Katie Rowland Spring Summer 2013
Katie Rowland’s visions are ideas of deadly, alluring, and mystical wonder. If anyone wants to see the rise of the femme fatale as much as us it has to be Rowland.
Her jewellery collections often delve into the world of power hungry Goddesses, temptresses and macabre females. The Kate Rowland Spring Summer 2013 collection is no different entitled; Ishtar.
Influenced by the Babylonian Goddess of the same name, this provocative creature had a malevolent, iniquitous side which led to her fame through a control over men and equally her amass of weapons, gaining her the title the “Queen of attack”.
Rowland interpeted this incredible force into the collection with sublime details; lion like talons, the Ouroboros and one of our favourites – fanged rings.
The execution of this inspiration is simply beautiful. The shapes, craftsmanship and details are hypnotic and mesmerising, as if creating that tempting, allurement of a femme fatale, whilst the spiked points and talons are as if her trap, ensnarement. Only realising when it is already too late to escape.
Perhaps through passion and vision one of Rowland’s concepts with soon give birth to a modern day femme fatale. A creature born out of torment but one powerful enough to carry that burning torch on from the fatales of history.
