When the opening music to a show is the theme tune for cult sci-fi classic Flash Gordon, you know you're about to see something special. Add to that a forty minute wait to get into the On/Off venue - leaving standing room only at the back - and a celebrity-filled front row and you have a hotly anticipated show. With Ashley Isham dressing music's Girl of the Moment, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, for her BRITs performance last week, the fashion crowd were waiting to be wowed. Aside from the powerful musical fanfare at the beginning, the show got off to a slow start with confused pieces in leather and latex carrying out the space vixen meets warrior princess theme. But as the show progressed, Ashley returned to what he does best - high octane outright gorgeous glamour: the models sashayed down the runway in beautiful floor length dresses in succulent silky shades of deep reds and purples, offset with shimmering gold. Neat details included leather caplets with strong shoulders trimmed with metallic hardware, diamond-studded epaulettes, embellished neck-pieces constructed from chains and delightful grecian-style pleating. Plunging backless designs ensured the sexy quota was revved up a few notches, in true Ashley style. The make-up reflected the sci-fi theme with winged-out, heavily pigmented eye colour. Hair was swept off the face 1940s style in fluffy asymmetric chignons and side-rolls positioned high on the head. With decadent dresses designed to be seen on the red carpet, and Florence giving her fashion forward seal of approval, we predict an influx of celebs in Ashley's dresses (though avoiding the styles that caused two models to stumble) at the next big A-list event. - Natalie Wall
