ELLE Magazine launches new competition – ‘Shopgirl to Stylist’ Do you flick through glossy magazines, dreaming of being a stylist on photo shoots? Do you curb your styling appetite by working as a shop assistant, creatively selecting outfits from the shop floor to style the nation? Well, listen up, fashion’s newest talent contest 'Shopgirl to Stylist’, launching on 5th March by ELLE Magazine, sounds just up your style-savvy street. We went along to the Mayfair Hotel in London to hear all about it from ELLE’s editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy. To celebrate a love of the British High Street, ELLE have donned their most eagle-eyed specs and are on the lookout for those shop girls or boys that have the credentials to make it as the next big thing in the fashion styling world. ELLE describes this nationwide search as ‘British fashion’s answer to the X Factor’. To enter the competition, entrants will have to submit a picture of an outfit they have styled, accompanied by a reference from their retail employer at elle.uk.com/shopgirltostylist (page will go live on 5th March). Contestants will create individual profiles where people can comment, tag the ones they ‘love’, connect to Facebook, and link to Twitter with the hash tag #ELLESTYLIST. The competition itself will involve various tasks that will take place over a six-month period. The initial 25 that are chosen will eventually be whittled down to 10, who will then take part in a final challenge that will be filmed for ELLE TV. Along the way, members of the ELLE team will mentor the contestants and the winner will not only win an amazing opportunity to style an ELLE shoot, but also a magazine internship. The winner will be announced in the October issue of ELLE, which will also mark the magazine’s 25th anniversary. ELLE’s Fashion Director Annie-Marie Curtis says ‘Our winner will get the big break that they have always dreamed of. He or she will have the profile and the contacts needed to start life as a fashion stylist’.
