Dario Argento’s 1977 cult horror classic Suspiria received critical acclaim for it’s visual and stylistic performance, use of colour and it’s soundtrack. But over 30 years later the film, widely considered an underrated horror classic, is set to receive a contemporary makeover.

Suspiria‘s story focusses on an American ballet student who transfers to a German dance academy controlled by a coven of witches. The remake, which will be directed by David Gordon Green, will be based on Argento’s original storyline with Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games, Orphan) set to play the lead. The cast, just revealed by Crime Scene Pictures, includes Isabelle Huppert (Amour,The Piano Teacher), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs, The Woman in Black), Michael Nyqvist (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Antje Traue (Man of Steel).

We’re not sure how this remake will pan out but one thing’s for sure; Suspiria is a work of art, full of subtle choices amongst the epic production design and when Green begins filming this September there’ll be thousands of Suspiria fans waiting with baited breath. But with costumes by three time Academy Award winner Milena Canonero (Marie Antoinette, Chariots Of Fire, A Clockwork Orange) this remake, due out in 2013, is looking promising.
