Rainbow Winters Spring Summer 2011

Rainbow Winters is innovating textiles and materials within fashion, incorporating technology to a wearable aesthetic. We simply were overjoyed when we came across the designer Amy Winters and her incredible vision. Finally a designer who can combine the two in a beautiful and magnificent way.

At Stylenoir we’ve always followed the growth of technology within fashion design. With Philips Lumalive fabrics taking the majority of our interest. But the concept of reactive fashion needed a creative mind, one that could see past the binary ones and zeros.

The Rainbow Winters collections vary from including sound reactive to light responsive technology, even printed and interwoven into the fabrics. The dress showing in this post for example includes electroluminescent panels, to detect volume rises and react to this accordingly.

A hugely interesting platform and vision, one that can only improve and expand … Read More »

Nichole de Carle – Lingerie as Feminine Architecture

Posted by Ally Richards in Fashion. 1 Comment

20th March

Nichole de Carle has to be the epitome of innovative, seductive and luxurious lingerie. Heading up the underwear-as-outwear trend, the London-based designer’s signature straps and braces demand to be seen, peeking out over low-cut tops and backless dresses to give some decoration that’s stylish and just a little bit naughty. The brand takes underwear out of the boudoir and places it centre-stage.

Following studying on DeMontfort University’s prestigious ‘Contour Design’ course and work with Alexander McQueen and Donna Karan, Nichole set up her lingerie company and soon made a name for herself, creating beautiful bespoke garments for an exclusive set of clientele. The modern, geometric designs show off the inspiration she draws from architecture, creating bold lines that exhibit and contour the female body in dramatic new ways.

Her criss-crossing straps give a touch of bondage that’s better fitting for the … Read More »

I’m so over it

11th March

I’ve had the pleasure to meet and work with some of the most iconic names in fashion and beauty. I can tell you now, all this claim of doom and gloom, is nonsense. Fashion and beauty are fantastic industries. They adapt, they change, they constantly strive to grow and be the first.

They are run by pioneers, not only in the respected industry but in humanity. Some of these key figures literately enthrall me with their patterns of thinking. I’ve been at the forefront of a few industries and honestly, nothing excites me more than technology, fashion and beauty. The amalgamation of all three leads to some of the most forward human beings this generation has ever had to offer.

So why are there constant bitching and blogging about “the state of the industry” this whole something for nothing mentality? … Read More »

Remember when Nasty Gal vintage was just one woman on an Ebay page? Remember how it then spiraled into one of the coolest and best fashion websites on the web?

Well, the founder Sophia Amoruso just gained a tonne of cash from Venture Capitalists. In short Index Ventures and SAI just valued it at $60 Million

Infact, Amoruso and Nasty Gal generated a rumoured $30 Million last year, with a profit of around $8 Million

That’s a lot of cash for selling old clothes on Ebay. There’s hope for vintage yet! Congrats Sophia!

19th February

Dimepiece are always at the forefront of culture and design. They innovate style, and innovate a movement. Their Spring Summer 2012 collection is paramount to that, evolving the signature Dimepiece style, whilst completely refreshing the look, it’s a juxtaposition that works perfectly.

Whilst we have been an advocate for Dimepiece for a couple of seasons now, this collection entitled “The Drug and the Dream” is by far our favourite, every element seems to come together in a celebration of fashion and individuality.

The collection drops on the 20th of February from DimepieceDesigns.com but scroll down for a preview of their SS12 campaign and lookbook. It really is insanely beautiful!

Stolen Girlfriends Club

16th February

New Zealand brand Stolen Girlfriends Club are fast becoming known for their unusual prints, floating layers and rock-chick t-shirts. Their recently released AW 2012 look-book ‘Here lie the bones’ , featuring Georgia Fowler and shot by Maya Villiger, shows the model rolling around a heavy-metal poster covered messy apartment,  teaming ethereal slips of mesh and lace with block bandeau tops and hot-pants.

Her outfits are accessorised with chunky platform boots and tousled hair. The brand, born in 2005 of New Zealand surfers Marc Moore, Luke Harwood and Dan Gosline; describes ‘an underlying feeling of rock’n’roll delinquency’ which is apparent in each of their collections.  They had no formal training in fashion but set out to make the kind of clothes they wanted to be able to buy.

Six years later, their label is booming and their grungy, renegade style; mixing girly … Read More »

Mynxii’s Monologues: NYFW Every End Is a New Beginning

Posted by Mynxii White in Fashion. 1 Comment

15th February

This was it. This was the fantastic conclusion, and it was so much better than I could have imagined.

It seemed as if the the universe was on our side today; each moment of this day was absolutely perfect. The chill from the air was gone, and was electric with energy.

After packing up, James and I headed to the final show of our Fall 2012 season: Diesel Black Gold. This was undeniably the best to end the week with. This was out first off site show, and I realized why this was becoming a growing trend. The production value was so much more than expected to bring the brand’s rocker chic aesthetic to life. It was a bit colder inside than it was outside, but it only added to the dark edge and mystery of the room.

The stark black … Read More »
