When asked whether the species of Alien that appeared in the original films would appear in Prometheus, Ridley scott has an enthralling and hilarious comment to make:

Absolutely not, they (the film studio) squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!

Stylenoir’s Top Ten Film Rundown

Posted by James Joseph in Film. 4 comments

11th March

We’ve decided to pick the top ten films that have inspired the Stylenoir team. Not surprisingly the following list will be full of film noir, neo noir, and sci-fi induced darkness.

1. Dark City
The fact that Dark City was way ahead of it’s time when released is clearly why it makes the number one spot. The aesthetic of the world created, the juxtaposition between film noir and sci-fi.

The characters from the naive darkness of Mr Quick and Mr Hand, to the tormented and delicate femme fatale Emma Murdoch. The level of thought and reflection on what makes us truly human.

The only qualm with this film is the horrendously cheesy special effects at the end of the story, however, when you take into account when this movie was released it might get away with it. We like to think of … Read More »

Underworld Awakening: Review

8th March

Underworld Awakening has been released, one of the most anticipated films for quite some time, and the successor of a cult trilogy. Without doubt Awakening is one of the most beautiful and exciting stories of the Underworld franchise. The film centers much more around Selene herself, and with that in mind sets off in a new direction that will surely excite and enthrall Underworld fans.

Selene has to rethink her future, her life. We see a more delicate side to her at times, as we all know, all Femme Fatale’s are strong through their own tormented minds, with hidden fragility inside. This is a sublime new dynamic, to see her in a delicate state at a few points during the film is not only refreshing, but moving.

The structure of this film was one of the most intelligent ways … Read More »

Underworld Awakening

21st February

We’ve been so focused on the fact that Resident Evil: Retribution is launching later this year, that we completely missed the fact that Underworld Awakening launched in the United Kingdom yesterday. The Underworld trilogy has not only been a creative masterpiece so far, but a colossal inspiration to Stylenoir, with past work and concepts twisted from elements of the first three movies.

I cannot even stress how important this movie is, it’s a point where everything can change. Leaving a trilogy which had massive appreciation would have been so easy, creating a fourth movie, one that humans now fight vampires must have been colossally difficult, and that can only mean one thing; it was worth doing.

The trailer and pre-photos look absolutely beautiful, the tone and cinematography that was so magnificent in the first three movies hasn’t changed at all. … Read More »

Illamasqua & Vicky McClure; Born Again

Posted by James Joseph in Beauty, Fashion. No Comments

18th August

Illamasqua have collaborated with Vicky McClure to create a video of expression and creativity, a journey to discover McClure‘s true self as the actress not only embraces but evolves her alter ego in this stunning film named; Born Again.

The intensity of the film is almost overwhelming, the emotional path she takes creates a breathtaking piece of work.

The Alter-Ego becomes her true self, something that has always swirled inside our minds. For if an individual creates an Alter-Ego where their passions, emotions and individuality are truly expressed, where they are truly happy, surely this reflects what they are about inside.

Then in time this takes over their usual self, like an understanding, an evolution of individuality. Replacing what was with an alter-ego, now evolved organically into their true selves, “killing off” what pre-existed before the alter-ego was born.

This is … Read More »

Posted by James Joseph in Arts and Culture. No Comments

18th July

The Dark Knight Rises film trailer has finally been released. The final story in the Christopher Nolan “The Dark Knight” Batman series.

Knowing Nolan‘s work, we are sure to see the Batman character become darker, more twisted and inevitably stronger throughout The Dark Knight Rises. As they say; “The night is always darkest just before the dawn”

The iconic dream team has been kept the same, with Christian Bale taking the lead role and of course music legend Hans Zimmer taking care of the composition and soundtrack.

2012 will be one hell of a year, especially for Stylenoir Magazine. It has been prophesied throughout history and it is about to become reality. To know that The Dark Knight Rises will be released in July 2012, the most monumental year of all, gives us goosebumps… we simply cannot wait.
